Warwickshire stunned their rivals Yorkshire this past weekend with a stunning comeback (writes Neil Pritchard).
Angela Jones taking to the new stage setup for the very first match, an idea and project overseen by herself, quite fittingly produced the performance of the Ladies B to secure the Lady of the Match award with a 22.77, as both sides played out a 3-all draw. Points for the Bears also came from Chloe McKivett and Nina Bolt.
The Men’s B also started well taking the first three matches with wins for Mark Carter, Dave Hill, Nigel Heydon and Mark Strong who was the 11th player to hit a County 10 darter for Warwickshire, with Scott Hope picking up the Man of the Match award with a 26.35.
With the overnight score standing at 8-10 in the visitors favour it was a tough task for the Ladies to pull this back but they were all full of confidence in doing so. However, Yorkshire had other ideas and took the match 4-2 with home wins coming from Caroline Pike and Lady of the Match Sue Gulliver with a 19.44 average.
The visitors now held a 14-10 lead, meaning a mammoth task to overcome one of the Giants of County Darts.
This was always going to be tough but to this day we saw an absolutely brilliant show from the Bears by claiming an astonishing 10-2 victory, with four of the stars taking wins with 30+ averages.
Wins from Wayne Mynard, Matty Washbrooke, Jamie Atkins, Gareth Braham, Kevin Dowling, Chris Wickenden on his County Debut, Noel Grant, Tom Martin, Jack Wareing and a MOM from Jamie Hughes with a 32.04 saw the Warwickshire to victory.
We all are elated with this stunning win and hopefully this gives us momentum going into the rest of the season.
