Lancashire move closer towards claiming the title

Lancashire move into a 23-point lead at the top of the Premiership table following a narrow 19-17 win over third-placed Warwickshire.

Warwickshire’s Women’s B suffered just their second loss of the season as Lancashire moved into an early 4-2 lead, with the Men’s B teams holding out for a 6-all draw.

Lancashire’s Women’s A secured a 5-1 win over the visitors which saw them move into a 15-9 lead overall. Warwickshire’s Men’s A put an end to Lancashire’s winning streak in the Men’s A standings, but the 8-4 scoreline wasn’t enough to take the victory and it was Lancashire who secured the all-important win bonus points.

Yorkshire, currently sitting in 2nd place, made the journey to the south coast to face Hampshire.

Hampshire’s Women’s A and B continued their good form this season which sees them top of both the A and B standings in the Premiership, as they ran out 4-2 victors in both their matches. The Women’s A fixture saw the performance of the league as Beau Greaves produced an impressive 29.47 average in her 3-0 win.

It was the strength of the Yorkshire Men’s squad which resulted in a 20-16 result overall, with their Men’s B winning 9-3 and Men’s B winning 7-5.

Essex took an emphatic 24-12 victory away to London to move up into 7th place. Essex dominated both the Men’s and Women’s matches, with the Women winning 4-2 in both the A and B, the Men’s B winning 9-3 backed up with a 7-5 win for the Men’s A.

Essex’s Craig Vickers (pictured) took the top Men’s A average over every division with a 35.21.

Northamptonshire were denied a first victory this season as Cheshire won their weekend fixture 22-14.

A three-all draw in the Women’s B also saw Northamptonshire’s Karen Sheridan register the highest Women’s B average of the league with a 25.91. From there it all went the way of Cheshire as the Men’s B won 8-4, Women’s A 4-2 and Men’s A 7-5.

Devon held out against Lincolnshire for an 18-all draw, securing their fourth bonus point of the season.

A draw in the women’s B match was backed up by a second win of the season for Devon’s Men’s B. A 30.83 average for Lincolnshire’s Scott Williams was the highest Men’s B average in the National League.

Devon’s Women’s A went down 5-1 to a strong Lincolnshire Women’s side and the Men’s A ended 6 matches each for an overall draw.

The result see’s Devon remain in 11th place, but level on points with Cornwall, who were defeated 21-15 by Glamorgan.

Both the Women’s A and B team ended in a 3-3 draw, but an 8-4 victory for Glamorgan’s Men’s B gave them the lead going into the Men’s A match, which also went the way of Glamorgan 7-5.

Elite Premier Division results: London 12 – 24 Essex, Glamorgan 21 – 15, Northamptonshire 14 – 22 Cheshire, Lancashire 19 – 17 Warwickshire, Hampshire 16 – 20 Yorkshire, Devon 18 – 18 Lincolnshire
