Glamorgan’s Welsh International Mark Challenger secured the vital win in the deciding set of this past weekend’s Cosmo Darts Premiership contest against Cornwall to get his side over the line.
Challenger (pictured on left, with Tim Jones) won a final enthralling game 4-3 against the visitors Robert Ruberry, as Cornwall looks set to pick up and unlikely draw in this fixture, having trailed by six points heading into Day 2.
The opening day saw the Women’s B and Men’s B go head to head.
Nikki Furse stood out for Cornwall Women’s B in defeat with Claire Crocombe and Donna Buckley setting the home side off to a promising start, having been supported by teammates Sophie Price and Sue Hall in a 4-2 win.
The Welsh outfits Men’s B ensured the overnight six point lead by coming out on top with an 8-4 win, with Martyn Fowler, Hywel Manuel and George Harrison the leading performers. Rob Jane was the leading Men’s B player for the Cornish Men.
Sunday saw a mouthwatering contest in the Women’s A as star players Rhian O’Sullivan and Maria O’Brien clashed, with the Welsh international defeating her English opponent 4-2 as both sides had to settle for a draw, with Glamorgan still holding a six point advantage.
Cornwall’s Men A had a tough task ahead of them, and nearly pulled off the impossible as they came out 8-4 victors, as Cornwall narrowly went down to a 19-17 defeat over the weekend. Jamie Kay was Cornwall’s star man as he hit a brilliant 33.46 average in a 4-1 triumph over Tim Jones. Matt Knowles, Greg Hambly and veteran John Mann also performed well for the away side.
Both NLO’s have now played at least one more game than the counties below them in the division, with three fixtures from Round 3 being played on the 2nd & 3rd November 2024 and Hertfordshire taking on Essex in March 2025.
