Cleveland remains top of Darts Corner Division One, despite fulfilling one fixture less than the chasing pack.
This week saw them head to Worcestershire, where they ran out 21 – 15 winners. The Women’s A and B teams both held out for 3-3 draws, with Cleveland’s Men’s B winning 8-4, and Men’s A seeing out the fixture with a 7-5 team win, which included the highest winning Men’s A average of the division courtesy of Adam Atkinson (30.17). Cleveland’s Men’s B sit top of the section, tied on points with Suffolk.
2nd place Suffolk dealt a huge blow to Nottinghamshire’s ambitions of remaining in Division One, as the home side won 26-10, including a 6-0 whitewash by Suffolk’s Women’s A side. Suffolk’s Women’s B side produced a 4-2 win over the visitors, with both the Men’s A and B sides winning 8-4. The performance of the entire Division came from Suffolk’s Kevin Leathers (pictured) in Saturday’s Men’s B match, with a 31.98.
Merseyside’s 23-13 win over Somerset see them leapfrog their opponents into third place overall, 19 points adrift of Suffolk.
Merseyside had an almost insurmountable 14-4 lead after day one as the Women’s B won 4-2 and the Men’s B impressed with a 10-2 victory. Despite a 4-2 comeback for Somerset’s Women’s A, Merseyside’s Men’s A rose to the occasion to finish the weekend off with a 7-5 win.
Surrey look set to be embroiled in a battle to avoid relegation this season as they travelled north to Gwynedd, where the home side ran out 24-12 winners. Gwynedd’s Emily Mitchell secured the best Women’s B performance of the Division as the team moved into a 4-2 lead.
Gwynedd’s 8-4 result in the Men’s B gave them a healthy 12-6 lead moving into Sunday’s A matches. The Women’s A resulted in a three-all draw, before a 9-3 win for Gwynedd’s Men’s A secured them the win.
The final fixture in the Division saw mid-table Derbyshire face Clywd, who are currently in 10th position with a game in hand. Derbyshire got off to a strong start as their Women’s B won 5-1, followed by a 7-5 win for the Men’s B.
A draw in the Women’s A match meant Derbyshire needed four more for the win, and despite a solid performance which saw Clwyd’s Men win 7-5, the visitors held out for a 20-16 victory. The highest Women’s A average of the division came via Derbyshire’s Jo Oldershaw, with a 22.77.
